Evening soundtrack...

Our hotel suite is on the 4th floor overlooking a busy street. The windows are single pane and are more-or-less acoustically-transparent. The aural soundscape during the evening is reminiscent of The Battle of Britain in an Imax theatre, but with some added 'beep-beeps'.

Can you bring me back one of those little trucks. The blue or white one would be fine.

Did you put the writing on the sign for the Regency?

They (the silly little trucks) are even more comedic when they're loaded down with 27 people.

having experienced Robie and Cunard from the 9th floor for the last month I am with you on the noise. Airconditioning does more than cool! Are there still the Jeepneys with a small villiage on board?

Yes, but more modern vehicles are starting to outnumber the homebuilts in some areas (cities). There are some really cool looking minivans; much more space-age looking than the ones in North America.

Even our party had at one point 14 people in one not-big minivan. See Mall of Asia posting.

Some boffins worry about 3rd world nations starting to buy (modern) cars and vans for themselves. Well, they shouldn't worry so much. The current fleet of homemade junkers emits A LOT of pure old fashioned pollution - including CO and NOx (which has something like 300x the greenhouse effect of CO2). Thus, replacing the fleet of old smoke belchers with more modern vehicles would probably improve even the emission of GH gases (appropriately weighted for effect). The roads are already pretty much full and everyone has a ride, so it's not as if their total fleet could double in the mid-term.
